8 사랑하는 여러분, 이 한 가지만은 잊지 마십시오. 주님께는 하루가 천 년 같고, 천 년이 하루 같습니다.
9 어떤 이들이 생각하는 것과 같이, 주님께서는 약속을 더디 지키시는 것이 아닙니다. 도리어 여러분을 위하여 오래 참으시는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 아무도 멸망하지 않고, 모두 회개하는 데에 이르기를 바라십니다.
10 그러나 주님의 날은 도둑같이 올 것입니다. 그 날에 하늘은 요란한 소리를 내면서 사라지고, 원소들은 불에 녹아버리고, 땅과 그 안에 있는 모든 일은 드러날 것입니다.
“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.”
