28 이 땅에 기근이 들거나, 역병이 돌거나, 곡식이 시들거나, 깜부기가 나거나, 메뚜기 떼나 누리 떼가 곡식을 갉아먹거나, 또는 적들이 이 땅으로 쳐들어와서 성읍들 가운데 어느 하나를 에워싸거나, 온갖 재앙이 내리거나, 온갖 전염병이 번질 때에,
29 주님의 백성 이스라엘 가운데 어느 한 사람이나 혹은 주님의 백성 전체가, 저마다 재앙과 고통을 깨닫고 이 성전을 바라보며 두 팔을 펴고 간절히 기도하거든,
30 주님께서는, 주님께서 계시는 곳 하늘에서 들으시고, 그들을 용서하여 주십시오. 주님께서는 각 사람의 마음을 아시니, 주님께서 각 사람에게 그 행위대로 갚아 주십시오. 주님만이 사람의 마음을 아십니다.
31 그렇게 하시면, 그들은, 주님께서 우리 조상에게 주신 이 땅 위에서 사는 동안, 언제나 주님을 경외하며, 주님의 길을 따라 살 것입니다.
“whatever prayer, whatever plea is made by any man or by all your people Israel, each knowing his own affliction and his own sorrow and stretching out his hands toward this house, then hear from heaven your dwelling place and forgive and render to each whose heart you know, according to all his ways, for you, you only, know the hearts of the children of mankind, that they may fear you and walk in your ways all the days that they live in the land that you gave to our fathers.”
